This layer is the authoritative source for locating Active Status Growth and Yield plots also known as Permanent Sample Plots (PSPs). These plots are protected and require an additional minimum windfirm buffer of 50m radius in the interior and 100m radius on the coast. These are generally 16m radius fixed area. Therefore, protected areas need to be a minimum of 66m radius around the plot centre in the interior and 116m radius on the coast. Best practices are to locate the plot centre on the ground. Coordinate accuracy varies. Please contact Anya Reid (Anya.Reid@gov.bc.ca) with questions or updated coordinates for plots. NOTE: Accuracy of the coordinates are variable. Coordinates for plots with a more recent (since 2000) last measurement are generally quite accurate (3m). However, plots measured in the 1990's have a wide range of coordinate accuracy. In all cases, it is necessary to ground truth plot location before block layout. In this spatial layer, low accuracy coordinates are buffered 300m to ensure they do not get missed from development planning. This layer replaces the [Growth and Yield Samples – Active Status](https://catalogue.data.gov.bc.ca/dataset/0ca49478-5d0f-44e8-b6af-3fd6e387803c) layer with more accurate and current information from the Inventory Sample Management Consolidation (ISMC) database.

The amount of groundwater exploited is estimated in m³/year. Groundwater usages are classified in four categories: agricultural, industrial, domestic and energy. Typically, groundwater usage should be represented as a series of sub-polygons or points fitting inside the boundary of the hydrogeological unit. The scope and method used to estimate the amount of water are described in the metadata associated with the dataset. The dataset identifies the main usages for the hydrogeological unit. It features numbers and percentages describing groundwater usages for a predetermined scope. The groundwater usage is frequently compiled by municipalities or counties. It could then be possible to display the usage by superimposing a series of pie charts depicting the groundwater usages over multiples administrative areas.

The Bedrock Index provides a spatial record of the location of all Bedrock maps published by the Geological Survey of Canada and hosted on Geoscan. The index has three "series" of maps; CGM, A series, and preliminary maps. In cases where there have been multiple editions of a map, the most recent record is reported in the Bedrock Index attribute table. Maps published in Open File documents are not recorded in the bedrock index. The "A" series maps were produced from 1909 to 2010 and have been replaced by the CGM (Canadian Geoscience Maps) series. CGM maps began production in 2010 and are still being published. Preliminary maps were published from 1941 to 2021.

STE_SCANNED_MAP_BOUNDARY_SP includes an index of the mapsheet grid location of Soils, Terrain, Ecosystems and related scanned maps (including Agriculture Capability and Climate Capability maps). These maps are intended for on-screen viewing or printing. The majority of the maps have been geo-referenced. Mapping may not cover the whole map grid area. Some maps are interim or draft and may have been superseded. Some files are of related legends and map project text. Associated scanned map boundary attributes describe the project map (project level metadata) and provide a link for downloading the map, plus links to related reports, geo-referenced maps, and GIS digital data available from other sources. ATTENTION - The IMAGE_URL link is only useable by BC government staff. Public users can download the scanned maps by using the ECOCAT_URL link. There is no charge for the scanned map files. The raster maps depict a suite of forest attributes in 2001* and 2011 at 250 m by 250 m spatial resolution. The maps were produced using the k nearest neighbours method applied to MODIS imagery and trained from National Forest Inventory photo plot data. As these maps also offer a coherent set of quantitative values for a large suite of forest attributes, they can be used as baseline information for modelling and in calculations such as merchantable forest volume or percentage of tree species. It is also possible to overlay these maps with other maps produced on the same pixel grid to make assessments of disturbance impacts, such as fire and harvests.
