The National Topographic System of Canada (NTS) is a national mapping reference grid defined by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) that is based on degrees of latitude and longitude. Starting at the Prime Meridian and at the Equator, the 1:50 000 grid is formed by intersecting every 1/8 degree of the meridians with every 1/4 degrees of parallels. It is also true that the standard 1:20 000 NTS block is broken down into 4 1:20 000 blocks that are labelled by quadrant. Each polygon in the grid is designated with a two digit number. a single letter. two additional numbers and a two letter quadrant value (Example 83H08NE). The 1:20 000 NTS grid was developed to support the Provincial Digital Base Mapping Project and is not part of the formal NRCan NTS program. The province of Alberta is covered by 2838 complete and 269 partially complete 1:20 000 NTS blocks.

The Metis Settlement is a dataset comprised of all the polygons that represent Metis Settlements lands in Alberta. Metis Settlements are lands set apart by provincial legislation for the use and benefit of the members of the eight Metis Settlements in Alberta. The legal title of these lands rests with the Metis Settlements General Council, a legislated-body that holds the fee simple interest on all Metis settlement lands, equivalent to full ownership of the land, with certain limited rights reserved for the Crown. The provincial government has primary jurisdiction over these lands and the people living on them.

The Ontario Hydro Network (OHN) is a provincial medium scale originating from data with regional scales of 1: 10,000 in Southern Ontario, 1: 20,000 in Northern Ontario and 1: 50,000 in the Far North. The shoreline is taken from the OHN - Waterbody data class. This data is used for cartographic purposes and web mapping services. This product requires the use of geographic information system (GIS) software. A Township is a land subdivision in Ontario. This information was captured through the Ontario Base Mapping Program, is maintained by the Ministry of Natural Resources and distributed through Geospatial Ontario (GEO) Warehouse. The spatial accuracy for some of the townships was improved through the Ontario Parcel, Township Realignment and Township Improvement projects. Improvements may include: * road allowance widths * spatial changes to better represent where the township boundaries are located * more consistent concession names Materials used to improve the location of township lines may include: * township Improvement plots * survey information i.e. retracements * original township plans * surveys notes * the physical features e.g. fence lines in the corporate editing environment * water bodies * GPS Ontario Road Network geometry This product requires the use of geographic information system (GIS) software.
