Zooplankton Database
Zooplankton and ichthyoplankton data are archived in the Institute of Ocean Sciences (IOS) Zooplankton Database. The data available spans from 1980 to 2018 and is an extraction of vertical net hauls as biomass by major taxa collected during surveys conducted in the oceanic and coastal waters of the Northeast Pacific Ocean. The majority of vertical net hauls in this data set were collected from 10 metres above the sea floor or an approximate maximum depth of 250 metres. Automatically Extracted Buildings
“Automatically Extracted Buildings” is a raw digital product in vector format created by NRCan. The feature classes of this product delineate polygonal building footprints automatically extracted from airborne Lidar data, high-resolution optical imagery or other sources.The first feature class, Automatically Extracted Buildings by acquisition source, contains building footprints delivered according to the spatial extent of each source dataset used for extraction. When the spatial extents of acquisition sources overlap, footprints for the same building may therefore be duplicated in this class.The second feature class, Optimized Buildings Layer, is an assembled and harmonized layer derived from the buildings by acquisition source. Its objective is to provide a unique representation of each building footprint by removing duplicates and resolving overlaps between sources.
Development of a coastal species characterization approach using environmental DNA (eDNA) using the marker COI
Species characterization by environmental DNA (eDNA) is a method that allows the use of DNA released into the environment by organisms from various sources (secretions, faeces, gametes, tissues, etc.). It is a complementary tool to standard sampling methods for the identification of biodiversity. This project provides a list of invertebrates species whose DNA has been detected in water samples collected at 2018 using the marker COI.The surveys were carried out in the summer of 2018 from August 11 to 14, between Forestville and Godbout (Haute-Côte-Nord). Sampling was carried out between 9-52 meters depth in 40 stations with one sample par station. Two liters of water were filtered through a 1.2 µm fiberglass filter. DNA extractions were performed with the DNeasy Blood and Tissue extraction kit (Qiagen). Negative field, extraction and PCR controls were added at the different stages of the protocol. Libraries at the COI locus were prepared by Genome Quebec and sequenced on an Illumina MiSeq PE250 system. The bioinformatics analysis of the sequences obtained was carried out using an in-house analysis pipeline as reported in Bourret et al. 2022. A first step made it possible to obtain a molecular operational taxonomic unit table (MOTU) using the cutadapt software for the removal of the adapters and the DADA2 R package for the filtration, fusion, chimera removal and data compilation. The MOTUs table was subsequently corrected by taking into account the negative controls, where the number of observations in the latter was removed from the linked samples. Singleton MOTUs have also been removed. Finally, the taxonomic assignments were carried out on the MOTUs using the IDTAXA classifier (present in the DECIPHIER R package) using a training set trained on the COI reference bank for Golf St-Laurent (GSL-rl v1.0, https://github.com/GenomicsMLI-DFO/MLI_GSL-rl) and a threshold of 40. Detections with an “Unreliable due to gaps” category were reported at the genus level only.The file provided includes generic activity information, including site, station name, date, marker type, assignment types used for taxa identification, and a list of taxa or species. The list of taxa has been verified by a biodiversity expert from the Maurice-Lamontagne Institute.This project was funded by Fisheries and Oceans Canada's Coastal Environmental Baseline Data Program under the Oceans Protection Plan. Piezometric Surface, Groundwater Geoscience Program
Level below which soil or rock is saturated with water, in the well and at the time the level has been measured, expressed in m above the sea level. Groundwater levels measured are interpolated / extrapolated to obtain groundwater level on every cell of the hydrogeological unit raster. Surfer and ArcGis are the software usually used to create groundwater level raster. The dataset designates a raster with a groundwater level, for each cell of the hydrogeological unit.
Manitoba Waterbody Data
This point feature layer contains both general and detailed information on waterbodies in Manitoba which are associated with the Lake Information for Anglers program.The point data contained within this layer represent the centroids of waterbodies in Manitoba. The layer describes a number of different attributes about a waterbody including, where available: average depth, aquatic invasive species information, regulatory links, presence of contours, waterbody specific PDF, fish assessment information, species information and coordinates. The waterbody data layer, along with related information, can be found at the Manitoba Lake Information For Anglers app. The project was initiated by Manitoba Wildlife and Fisheries Branch with funding from the Fish and Wildlife Enhancement Fund. The dataset includes the following fields (Alias (Name): Description) Waterbody ID (WATERBODY_ID): Unique identifier for an individual waterbody. Average Depth (m) (AVERAGE_DEPTH_M): Average depth of a waterbody, if bathymetric data is available. Secchi (SECCHI): Indicates whether data exists for secchi depth in the waterbody (YES/NO). Secchi Depth (m) (SECCHI_DEPTH): Depth in meters of the visibility of a secchi disk. Fishing Division (FISHING_DIVISION): Indicates which fishing division the waterbody centroid is within. Manitoba Waterbody Stocking Records
This dataset contains information on fish stockings since 1917 in Manitoba waterbodies with details on date of stocking, amount of fish, size of fish and species of fish.Stocking Data is a point layer representing individual stocking events dating back to 1917. Each record contains information such as waterbody name, fish species, fish size and quantities, as well as the fishing division of the waterbody. Stocking data is updated multiple times per year as the Province of Manitoba Hatchery conducts stocking. The stocking data layer, along with related information, can be found at the Manitoba Lake Information For Anglers app. The project was initiated by Manitoba Wildlife and Fisheries Branch with funding from the Fish and Wildlife Enhancement Fund. Groundwater samples have been collected in the hydrogeological unit, for various types of analysis. The dataset is not used to represent a particular phenomenon or observation but rather as a utility dataset to add context and reference to groundwater analysis. It represents a general description of the sample site and sample. Sampling methods vary according to the types of analysis.
Drinking Water Sources - Source Areas
Polygon features representing the geographical extent of a source area that contributes water to a drinking water system. A drinking water system is any domestic system servicing anything other than a single-family dwelling, as defined in the Drinking Water Protection Act. Source Area is a broad term used to describe any area that could potentially contribute water to the drinking water system; it does not mean that hydrologic analyses have been completed to determine likelihood of connectivity. These source areas most often represent the entire aquifer extent (for ground water systems) or the watershed upstream from the intake (for surface water systems). This is one of three Drinking Water Sources datasets (along with the DWS - Intakes/Wellheads points dataset, and DWS - Protection Zones polygons dataset). Note: these polygons have unique Source Areas IDs used to relate them to the Intakes/Wellhead points.
