This spatial data represents the boundaries of Manitoba's forest sections. Forest sections are administrative areas comprised of Forest Management Units (FMU's). There are 14 uniquely named forest sections in Manitoba, 9 of which are capable of growing commercial forests.Manitoba's f orest sections are administrative areas comprised of Forest Management Units (FMU's). The Aspen Parkland forest section in the south along with the northern forest sections of Boreal Shield, Taiga Shield, Hudson Plains and Southern Arctic are incapable of growing commercial forests. The four northern forest sections were previously called the 'white zone' and all have retained the previous white zone forest section number of 10. The northern forest section boundaries are based on the following ecozones:Hudson Plains: A subarctic area encompassing the coastal areas of Hudson Bay. The area is formed into a wide, level plain, characterised by poor drainage that has resulted in large and numerous peatlands, lakes, coastal marshes, and tidal flats. Alder, willow, black spruce, and tamarack are the most common tree species.Taiga Shield: Terrain is typically flat or with rolling hills caused by glacial retreat; long eskers and uplands are common. Shallow soils remain damp year-round and regularly freeze and thaw; this leads to tilted growing trees, sometimes called ‘drunken forests’. The northern edge of the forest section is delineated by the tree line. Black spruce, jack pine, birch, tamarack, white spruce, balsam fir, trembling aspen, and balsam poplar are common tree species.Southern Arctic: The southern boundary designated the tree line. Moraines, eskers, kettle lakes, and ponds are common. Permafrost occurs in a continuous sheet throughout the section; polygonal hummocks often result from the freeze and thaw of the soils.Boreal Shield : This forest section represents the upper boundary of the boreal shield ecozone, characterised by long, cold winters and warm summers. Permafrost is widespread. Uplands and lowland tree species are common. Soil varies from poorly drained muskeg to glacially-deposited sand. Coniferous trees include white and black spruce, balsam fir, jack pine, and tamarack; hardwood tree species include birch, trembling aspen, and balsam poplar. Forest fires and insect outbreaks are the natural drivers of forest succession. The ten forest sections south of forest section 10 are sometimes referred to as the 'green zone' and include the following: Pineland, Aspen Parkland, Mountain, Interlake, Lake Winnipeg East, Churchill, Nelson River, Hayes River, Saskatchewan River and Highrock. Forests cover large areas of Canada but only some of these forests are actively managed. The Map of Forest Management in Canada provides a generalized classification of forest management in Canada, including: protected areas, Treaty/Settlement Lands (including Treaty Lands identified in Final Agreements, Land Claim Agreements and Settlements), Indian Reserves, other federal reserves (including military training areas), provincial and territorial reserves and restricted use areas, private lands, short- and long-term Crown forest tenure areas and areas with no current Crown timber dispositions. The Managed Forest Map of Canada dataset provides a wall-to-wall classification of lands in Canada. It does not differentiate areas of forest from non-forest. The Managed Forest Map of Canada differs from maps defining the area designated as “managed forest” for greenhouse gas inventory reporting purposes and does not replace those maps. Instead, the Managed Forest Map of Canada shows areas that are currently managed, as of June 2017, and provides generalized management type classification for those areas. Collaborating agencies plan to update the dataset periodically as needed, and remain open to receiving advice from experts concerning refinement priorities for future versions.

Data from the former Kemptville, Midhurst and Aylmer Districts were compiled in this dataset to show forest areas on private land, managed by the landowner in cooperation with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources under the Woodlands Improvement Act (WIA). The WIA allowed for 15-year management agreements between landowners and the MNR to plant and improve woodlands on private land. The WIA was in place from 1966-1999. This data is being provided as-is. No additional data is available, and no updates or maintenance are planned for this dataset.

## Get data on boundaries of local climatic areas used for forest fire weather forecasting. This dataset shows the boundaries of administrative areas used for forest fire weather forecasting. North of the French River, boundaries correspond closely with Environment Canada’s areas for public weather forecasting. South of the French River, 25 Environment Canada areas are combined into six larger areas for provincial forecasting.

This dataset is produced for the Government of Alberta and is available to the general public. The Forest Management Agreement (FMA) Published Area dataset consists of polygons representing the areas of land where the Province of Alberta grants FMA holders the rights to establish, grow, harvest, and remove timber in accordance with the relevant regulations and policies. Please note that the distribution contact differs for the general public compared to Government of Alberta ministries. Refer to the Distribution Information section of this metadata for the appropriate contact to acquire this dataset.

The purpose of this feature class is to identify the individual annual allowable cut and annual limit areas as referred to in the Forest Resources Act subsection 20(2) and 31(10 of the Forest Resources Regulation). Where there is no approved Forest Resources Management Plan (FRMP) for an area, forest resources harvesting can only be authorized in an amount less than that prescribed by regulation for that area. The Forest Resources Regulation subsection 31(1) establishes the annual limits for harvesting timber resources for areas without an FRMP. These areas are referred to as the Annual Limit Regions in Schedule 1 of the Regulation titled Timber Harvesting Areas. This feature class represents Manitoba's Forest Management Licence (FML) boundaries.The Forest Act provides for the establishment of Forest Management Licences to provide a continuous supply of timber to the forest industry. A Forest Management Licence, granted for a period of not more than twenty years, may be renewed for further periods. The Forest Management Licence describes the land upon which trees may be cut, the volume of wood that may be harvested, and other terms and conditions. There are currently two Forest Management Licences in Manitoba, FML-2 and FML-3 . Timber management and forest renewal are the responsibilities of Manitoba Sustainable Government on Crown Forest Land outside of Forest Management Licence areas, and within Forest Management Licence areas where the wood is used by a facility other than that operated by the Forest Management Licensee. Version 3 of Manitoba's Forest Management Licence (FML) boundaries includes FML-2 and FML-3. Previous boundaries associated with FML-1 and IWSA's have been removed. To update and improve the positional accuracy of Manitoba's Forest Management Licence (FML) boundaries, written descriptions of FML areas were referenced along with linework from Forest Land Inventories (FLI), Forest Resource Inventories (FRI) and Manitoba's township fabric to improve Provincial FML boundaries. Boundary linework the following related geospatial datasets were topologically checked for coincident linework: Manitoba Provincial Boundary; Manitoba Forest Management Units ; Manitoba Forest Management Licence Agreement Areas; Manitoba Forest Sections; Manitoba Provincial Forests .
