Landscape Units are spatially identified areas of land and/or water used for long-term planning of resource management activities. Landscape units are important for designing strategies and objectives to maintain landscape level biodiversity and for managing other forest resources. Landscape units are also used to initiate landscape unit plans, which provide direction on biodiversity, old growth forest retention, wildlife habitat maintenance and timber harvesting. LUs may also be used as planning zones for other stakeholders in addition to forest licensees and MOFR. This spatial view was created based on the selection from the layer LANDSCAPE UNIT SP, where the DATE OF RETIREMENT is null. Therefore, only current LU shapes are included in this layer

A Fire Disturbance Area represents the mapped exterior perimeter of a forest fire. Mapping is derived from a variety of sources, such as GPS points and digitized paper maps. Prior to 1998, only fires greater than 200 hectares were mapped. Since 1998, fires greater than 40 hectares have been mapped. If adequate mapping exists for fires less than 40 hectares in size, they will be included in this data class. The [Forest Fire Info Map](https://www.lioapplications.lrc.gov.on.ca/ForestFireInformationMap/index.html?viewer=FFIM.FFIM) shows active fires, current fire danger and restricted fire zones in place due to high fire danger.

The bedrock geologic units designate units of the same types of rock which composed the solid rock exposed at ground surface (as outcrop) or which underlies unconsolidated surficial sediments. This dataset represents a general description of the stratigraphy and geology, including geologic unit thickness, morphology, age and rank. It features a list of the geologic unit names and types of rock (lithology) in the hydrogeological unit, from a controlled vocabulary. While the preferred format to deliver this data is by using a shapefile and its linked attributes, this dataset can be delivered also by providing link to external data which should have at least the same properties or also by joining a georeferenced image of the map.
