Digital Surficial Geological Data of the Halifax Metropolitan and Surrounding Areas, NS
This digital product is a compilation of surficial geological data of the Halifax Metropolitan area which was defined by Dan Utting using a LiDAR derived bare-earth hillshade model. The LiDAR data was collected by PHB Lasermap, and provided by Halifax Regional Municipality. The data was used to create Open File Maps OFM ME 2011-001 to 2011-012, compiled by D. J. Utting, 2011. The digital product was created by Geoscience and Mines Branch staff at the Department of Energy and Mines. The digital product contains layers for geological features such as: age dates, drumlins, eskers, geological contacts, surficial geologic units, ice movement, moraines, meltwater, neatline, station locations, and large aggregate quarries.
A Video, Sidescan and Echosounder Survey of Nearshore Halifax Harbour
A novel towfish incorporating sidescan and video hardware was used to ground truth echosounder data for the nearshore of Halifax Harbour. The resulting sampling grid extended from the shoreline to a depth of 10 m, including Bedford Basin through the Inner Harbour to the Outer Harbour. Each of these three zones could be distinguished from the others based upon combinations of substrate type, benthic invertebrates, and macrophyte canopy. Bedford Basin had a relative lack of macrophytes and evidence of intense herbivory. The Inner Harbour was characterized by shoreline hardening due to anthropogenic activities. The Outer Harbour was the most “natural” nearshore area with a mix of bottom types and a relatively abundant and diverse macrophyte canopy. All survey data were placed into a GIS, which could be used to answer management questions such as the placement and character of habitat compensation projects in the harbour. Future surveys utilizing similar techniques could be used to determine long term changes in the nearshore of the harbour.Cite this data as: Vandermeulen H. Maritimes Region Atlantic Zone Monitoring Program 1991 to 2020 Hydrographic Transect Climatology
The hydrographic 1991 to 2020 climatology for the Maritimes region Atlantic Zone Monitoring Program core transects, Cabot Strait, Louisbourg, Halifax, Browns Bank, and Northeast Channel, are calculated to support annual reporting on seasonal variability. Details on data coverage for these transects and ancillary transects occupied since the inception of the program are provided. Comparisons with the previous climatology period, years 1981 to 2010, are summarized when possible.Cite this data as: Layton, C. Temporal Series of the National Air Photo Library (NAPL) - Halifax, Nova Scotia (1947-1977)

The National Air Photo Library (NAPL) of Natural Resources Canada archives over 6 million aerial photographs covering all of Canada, some of which date back to the 1920s.This collection includes Time Series of aerial orthophoto mosaics over a selection of major cities or targeted areas that allow the observation of various changes that occur over time in those selected regions.These mosaics are disseminated through the Data Cube Platform implemented by NRCan using geospatial big data management technologies. These technologies enable the rapid and efficient visualization of high-resolution geospatial data and allow for the rapid generation of dynamically derived products. The data is available as Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF (COG) files for direct access and as Web Map Services (WMS) or Web Coverage Services (WCS) with a temporal dimension for consumption in Web or GIS applications. The NAPL mosaics are made from the best spatial resolution available for each time period, which means that the orthophotos composing a NAPL Time Series are not necessarily coregistered. For this dataset, the spatial resolutions are: 100 cm for the year 1947 and 50 cm for the year 1977.The NAPL indexes and stores federal aerial photography for Canada, and maintains a comprehensive historical archive and public reference centre. The Earth Observation Data Management System (EODMS) online application allows clients to search and retrieve metadata for over 3 million out of 6 million air photos.The EODMS online application enables public and government users to search and order raw Government of Canada Earth Observation images and archived products managed by NRCan such as aerial photos and satellite imagery. 2018 - HC Halifax County Inland 2018 1m - Mosaic of High Resolution Digital Elevation Model (HRDEM) by LiDAR acquisition project
High-Resolution Digital Elevation Model (HRDEM) generated from LiDAR. This data collection includes a Digital Terrain Model (DTM) and a Digital Surface Model (DSM). The HRDEM product is referenced to the Canadian Geodetic Vertical Datum of 2013 (CGVD2013). Source data for HRDEM datasets is acquired through multiple projects with different partners. Since data is being acquired by project, there is no integration or edgematching done between projects. The data in this collection have been reprojected from the source reference system to the Canada Atlas Lambert projection (EPSG:3979). **This third party metadata element follows the Spatio Temporal Asset Catalog (STAC) specification.**

This data contains location information for 1 of Ontario’s snow monitoring networks: * Surface Water Monitoring Centre (SWMC) Snow course data is collected by: * conservation authorities * Ontario Power Generation * Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) districts Data is collected twice a month from November 15 until May 15. The Surface Water Monitoring Centre uses this data to assess: * current snow cover * frozen ground conditions * snowpack * potential snowmelt * contributions to streamflow The snow data is located in a corporate water and climate database. This data helps MNR and conservation authorities assess the potential for flood at the local and provincial scale.
