Data show where pathogens - fungal, bacillial or viral - have caused damage by reducing growth rates, tree vigor or have killed trees. Examples of forest diseases include White Pine Blister Rust, Armillaria Root Rot etc. The Government of Ontario tracks forest damage events to help proactively manage the detrimental effects to our forests. We monitor the threat and spread of invasive forest pest insect species in Ontario. The data is also important to the Forest Management Planning process in calculating timber volume loss within affected areas. This product requires the use of geographic information system (GIS) software.

FluWatch is Canada's national surveillance system that monitors the spread of flu and flu-like illnesses on an on-going basis.Activity Level surveillance is a component of FluWatch that provides an overall assessment of the intensity and geographical spread of laboratory-confirmed influenza cases, influenza-like-illness (ILI) and reported outbreaks for a given surveillance region. Activity Levels are assigned and reported by Provincial and Territorial Ministries of Health. Each investigation can have one or more cases involved depending on the number of herds or animals exposed.  Not all disease investigations are handled the same due to a partnership approach.  Diseases can be detected via surveillance, ad hoc reporting, or through other programs. 2. Rabies is a separate program. Please see Manitoba's Provincial Rabies Management Program for data related to Rabies Surveillance.3. Certain zoonotic diseases, such as salmonella or influenza, are also captured in more detail through other means.  The total occurrence of a zoonotic disease represented in this dashboard reflects occurrences where risks or exposures were deemed significant enough to warrant further investigation.  4. Historically, One Health Investigations that were predominantly focused on Public Health issues rather than Animal Health concerns were not captured in this system and will be underrepresented here. The health of individual amphibians, amphibian populations, and their wetland habitats are monitored in the oil sands region and at reference locations. Contaminants assessments are done at all sites. Amphibians developing near oil sands activities may be exposed to concentrations of oil sands-related contaminants, through air emissions as well as water contamination. The focus of field investigations is to evaluate the health of wild amphibian populations at varying distances from oil sands operations. Wood frog (Lithobates sylvaticus) populations are being studied in Alberta, Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories in order to examine the relationship of proximity to oil sands activities and to prevalence of infectious diseases, malformation rates, endocrine and stress responses, genotoxicity, and concentrations of heavy metals, naphthenic acids and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

The Fish Pathology Program (FPP) located at the Pacific Biological Station in Nanaimo has been assessing the health of aquatic animals since the early 1970’s. Utilizing traditional diagnostic methods, the FPP has supported internal and external clients to provide clinical data and management advice on the health of aquatic animals. The dataset contains information from diagnostic fish health cases coming from the Salmonid Enhancement Program, Research, Public and I&T submissions. Data contained in the database includes pathogen findings from submitted cases from all of the Pacific Region.The publication of The Fish Health Database will comply with public release recommendations documented in recommendation twenty two, made in volume three of the Final Report (October 2012) submitted by the Cohen Commission of Inquiry into the Decline of the Sockeye Salmon in the Fraser River.

As the COVID-19 pandemic spreads, researchers and health professionals have noted large differences in the impact that the infection has on individuals. Whereas some remain asymptomatic and unaware of their infection or experience only mild symptoms, others require hospitalization, ventilation, and may even die. As research evidence accumulates, both nationally and internationally, it appears that certain health characteristics, such as obesity or the presence of chronic conditions, increase the risk of severe outcomes among those who are infected with the novel coronavirus.To better understand which segments of the Canadian population may be vulnerable to severe health outcomes related to COVID-19, Statistics Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada have worked collaboratively to build an index of underlying health conditions in the adult household population. Using information from the 2017/2018 Canadian Community Health Survey, new data tables released today estimate the proportion of the adult household population who may be at greater risk of severe health outcomes related to COVID-19 due to the presence of underlying health conditions.

The contaminants in fish database is a compilation of contaminant data analysed from fish tissue at the Fresh Water Institute from 1970 to 2005. Data include lab number, region, analysis, organs, species, lake, form (whole fish, headon dressed, headless dressed), weight, and length and contaminant concentrations. Total mercury was the predominant contaminant measured. Results were expressed as ppm or ppb based on the parameter analyzed. Concentrations are expressed based on wet weight.
