This polygonal dataset represents authorized applications for a Mines Act permit known as a Permitted Mine Area (PMA). This dataset can be used in combination with the NoW point dataset which represents both applications for a Mines Act permit and issued authorizations for mining activities proposed in the application. **The regional mine PMA dataset is not complete for all mine sites in BC. This digital product is developed from a database of published abandoned mine openings for the province of Nova Scotia. The database is maintained by the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources and Renewables, Geoscience and Mines Branch. The database provides approximate coordinate locations for many of the abandoned mine openings, and also provides a source reference on each mine opening.

A mineral restriction is in place to limit and define mineral exploration and development within the Alberta government's mandate to protect natural or historical sites and to manage mineral resources. Examples of mineral restrictions include Bird Sanctuary, Provincial Park, and Coal Mine Licence Area. Restriction types with different levels of surface access are the result of government policy and all are mineral or substance specific.

This database aggregates basic information on orphaned and abandoned mine sites from participating Canadian jurisdictions, including their name, location, jurisdiciton, and the commodity that was mined. It was originally created in 2012 through the National Orphaned/Abandoned Mines Initiative and has undergone several updates since that time. Data on sites in each jurisdiction is owned and maintained by that jurisdiction. The database includes links to the corresponding records in that jursidiction. While the database includes common informaiton about all sites, there may be discrepancies in the types of data provided about sites in different jurisdictions and data from some jurisdictions may be updated more frequently than others.

Current weather induced overland flood alertsThe Hydrologic Forecast Centre (HFC) issues several categories of flood alert throughout the year including riverine flooding due to snowmelt and rainfall, wind and wave induced shoreline flooding and ice pileup, and rainfall induced overland flooding. This layer demonstrates the location and/or extend of current alerts due to rainfall induced overland flooding. The types are defined below:Overland Flood Warning: A severe weather warning that is issued to alert the public that overland flooding is imminent or occurring in the warned area. Overland flooding is a quick onset of flood conditions, usually occurring after heavy rain that may not be linked to a specific waterway or lake. Rainfall intensity and duration, topography, soil conditions and ground cover are factors impacting overland flooding. Overland flooding can also occur because of a sudden release of water held by an ice jam.Overland Flood Watch: A severe weather watch that is issued when conditions are favourable for overland flooding. Normally issued when significant rainfall is expected in locations with saturated soil.
