The purposes of this system are defined in The Provincial Parks Act. The system is intended to:a) conserve ecosystems and maintain biodiversityb) preserve unique and representative natural, cultural and heritage resources c) provide outdoor recreational and educational opportunities and experiences in a natural setting. All provincial parks in Manitoba are classified according to the purpose and management of the park. There are five classifications defined under The Provincial Parks Act. 1.         WILDERNESS PARKS Wilderness parks contribute to the provincial network of protected areas by preserving representative areas of an ecoregion. Discussions with and support from local communities are crucial in the establishment of new wilderness parks and in ensuring that these remote areas continue to be protected into the future. 2.         NATURAL PARKS The main purpose of a natural park is both to preserve areas of an ecoregion and to accommodate a diversity of recreational opportunities and resource uses. Natural parks minimize land available for resource extraction and, to the greatest extent possible, contribute to the provincial network of protected areas and provide outdoor recreational and educational experiences in a natural setting. 3.         INDIGENOUS TRADITIONAL USE PARKS The main purpose of an Indigenous traditional use park is to preserve land that has been traditionally used by Indigenous Peoples and that is significant to Indigenous Peoples because of its natural features or cultural importance. The establishment of new Indigenous traditional use parks is based upon proposals put forward by Indigenous Peoples and the significance of these sites as traditional use areas. 4.         RECREATION PARKS Recreation parks provide outdoor recreation opportunities in a natural setting. The establishment of new recreation parks is based on an assessment of recreational needs, economic viability and existing community services. 5.         HERITAGE PARKS Heritage parks preserve unique and representative cultural and heritage resources of outstanding provincial significance. Partnerships with heritage groups and communities are essential to the creation of heritage parks. PARK RESERVES To assist in the creation of new parks and protected areas, The Provincial Parks Act also provides for the establishment of park reserves. The park reserve status provides for interim protection of areas under consideration. Areas selected for designation could ultimately become provincial parks or be placed under another appropriate designation, such as an ecological reserve. Typically, groundwater usage should be represented as a series of sub-polygons or points fitting inside the boundary of the hydrogeological unit. The scope and method used to estimate the amount of water are described in the metadata associated with the dataset. The dataset identifies the main usages for the hydrogeological unit. It features numbers and percentages describing groundwater usages for a predetermined scope. The groundwater usage is frequently compiled by municipalities or counties. It could then be possible to display the usage by superimposing a series of pie charts depicting the groundwater usages over multiples administrative areas.

A Traditional Territory is an area of the Yukon that the people of a First Nation have traditionally used. A First Nation's Settlement Lands fall inside the boundaries of its Traditional Territory. A First Nation does not own its Traditional Territory, but the First Nation and its benificiaries have a number of rights within their Traditional Territory, both on and off of Settlement Land. This data was built using the 1:250,000 National Topographic Data Base (NTDB) data as the base and the 1:500,000 hardcopy traditional territory maps as signed by individual First Nation chiefs on November 8, 1988 for the line work.The White River First Nation asserted traditional territory boundary in this dataset was updated on November 7, 2024.The Acho Dene Koe First Nation asserted traditional territory boundary in this dataset was updated on June 16, 2025.

This polygon dataset represents Crown land parcels contained within flood compensation/settlement agreements with certain Northern Affairs communities, excluding First Nations.The purpose of this dataset is to show Crown land parcels contained within flood compensation/settlement agreements with certain Northern Affairs communities, not including First Nations. The dataset includes the Grand Rapids Forebay (GRF) agreements for the Northern Affairs communities of Moose Lake and Easterville, plus recently added Cross Lake Community and Norway House Community Settlement lands. The agreements provide for lands to be held by permit and/or certificate of title in the name of a community corporation, or set aside for traditional use. TA_CROWN_RIGHTS_OF_WAY_SVW contains the spatial representation (polygon) of active and applied for Statutory Rights-of-way. Statutory rights-of-way are registerable in a Land Titles office, and are normally issued to authorize linear uses of Crown Land for transportation, communication, energy production and utility developments. They grant tenure holders right of passage for specific purposes and certainty respecting access to the land and use of improvements. They do not convey non-exclusive use - exclusivity may be granted for safety reasons. A legal survey is required to define the tenured area. The view was created to provide a simplified presentation of this single tenure type from the disposition information in the Tantalis operational system. This feature class identifies active areas designated for personal use woodcutting where harvesting dead or downed fuelwood can occur for purposes such as home heating. Certain areas have seasonal restrictions or additional terms and conditions. A forest resources permit is required to cut in these areas; this free permit authorizes a limit of 25m 3 (11 cords) of firewood.
