Grouping can include up to a maximum of 750 quartz claims. All quartz claims must be contiguous, i.e. they must be adjoining. A claim is a parcel of land located or granted for hard rock mining. A claim also includes any ditches or water rights used for mining the claim, and all other things belonging to or used in the working of the claim for mining purposes. A claim is a rectangular plot of ground that does not exceed 1,500' X 1,500'. Orders in Council (OIC) are regulations or legislative orders in relation to and authorized by an existing Act. This table identifies Yukon lands withdrawn from disposal, usually by Territorial Order in Council. In Corporate Spatial Warehouse (CSW) data is split out into spatial views by Act under which orders are authorized. The tables are comprehensive and include both active and expired orders. Spatial views show only the active data.In this table and spatial views, Regulations by Order in Council (OIC) are spatially represented to provide clarity regarding Yukon lands withdrawn from disposal. Spatial data is viewed by the Act under which the order is authorized. Not all orders are for withdrawal, different levels of withdrawal are common and not detailed in GIS attributes. In and around the early 1900s, the Government of Canada used Crown grants to issue interests in land.If a Crown grant includes rights to mines and minerals, including quartz, in the location of the grant, quartz claims cannot be staked over the location of that Crown grant. These approvals include, but are not limited to a Water Licence and a Quartz Mining Licence.A project must go through two distinct stages before mining activity can commence. First, an assessment determines whether significant adverse environmental or socio-economic effects are likely to occur. Quartz Leases are the most secure form of mineral title in the Yukon. Once a vein or lode is confirmed within the limits of the claim, the proponent may apply to lease the subsurface of their claim(s). Typically, companies contemplating production will take their claims to lease which provides secure title and relieves them from their annual work requirement.
