Historical trace metals concentrations from sediment samples and suspended particulate matter (SPM) samples, 1976 - 1987
This dataset is a compilation of numerous data files recovered as part of a data request in 2024 from a historical archive of DFO research data. Sediment and Suspended Particulate Matter (SPM) samples were collected over more than a decade as part of Dr. Douglas Loring’s research program while working at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography (BIO). Samples were collected as part of individual and collaborative research projects, and links to the relevant primary science publications and reports are included in the data in an effort to provide context to the data, as well as describe the field and laboratory techniques used to generate the attached data.
Provincial Electoral Division - Historical 2003
The Provincial Electoral Division - Historical 2003 dataset is comprised of all the polygons that represent the areas in Alberta established as electoral divisions under the Alberta Electoral Divisions Act of May 16, 2003. This dataset is no longer valid and is of historical interest only.
Places administered by Parks Canada
The purpose of this feature class is to show areas that are National Parks (NPs), National Park Reserves (NPRs) and National Marine Conservation Area (NMCAs). Parks Canada manages more than 43 NPs. (See: https://parks.canada.ca/voyage-travel/recherche-tous-parks-all) for a list of PCA administered parks.By using this data, it is important to understand and accept that the data is not to be used for defining boundaries. Administrative decisions should be based on legal documents and legal survey plans.Canada Lands Surveys: https://clss.nrcan-rncan.gc.ca/clss/plan/search-recherche
Atlantic Herring Abundance in Placentia Bay
This project was completed by the Pelagics Section in the Newfoundland and Labrador Science Branch of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO). As part of the Coastal Environmental Baseline Program, a historical research gillnet program was reinitiated in Placentia Bay. Four local fishers each set fleets of standardized nets to catch herring for 6 weeks during the spring. The data collected was used to update a time series and provide advice at the herring stock assessment in October 2022. This program was continued in the 22/23 fiscal year. Data collected from this program included gillnet catch rates, bycatch, temperature and biological (herring) samples; from which biological metrics such as length, weight, sex, maturity and age were measured. This record contains catch data for 2018 to 2021, as well as biological data from 2018.
Ocean Salmon Program - Barkley Sound Juvenile Salmon Study from 1987 to 1994
During the period of 1987 to 1994, Robin J. LeBrasseur and N. Brent Hargreaves lead a juvenile salmon predation research project in Alberni Inlet and Barkley Sound BC. This dataset contains the research survey catch data and individual fish examinations data.
Fire history
This is a landscape level GIS coverage of large fires within the Yukon, spanning a period from 1946 to present. Original polygon size was limited to 200 hectares, when the first edition of this dataset was completed in 1997. Smaller fires are now being included, especially near communities. It is important to note that in most instances, fire perimeters only were mapped. This means that unburned areas within the perimeter are not accounted for, either in an ecological context or in annual area burned summaries. More recent fires mapped, with the aid of satellite technology may include large unburned patches.Although the temporal scale of the coverage goes back to late 1940's, Yukon-wide fire detection capability was not fully developed until the 1960's. In addition to this, access to regular aerial mapping was not readily available until that same time period. As a result many fires in the 40's and 50's were simply not recorded or poorly mapped, particularly in the north. For that reason, care must be taken when drawing conclusions from these data as it relates to the early years.Distributed from [GeoYukon](https://yukon.ca/geoyukon) by the [Government of Yukon](https://yukon.ca/maps) . Tank
A tank is an above ground container that holds either petroleum or water. This data is no longer being updated. It is best suited for historical research and analysis.
Aquatic Landscape Inventory System
This historic dataset delineates valley segments based on a number of different natural features. The data applies to valley segments on the Ontario side of the Great Lakes. Aquatic Landscape Inventory System (ALIS) has also been incorporated into the [Aquatic Ecosystem Classification: Great Lakes Basin and Wetlands Data Class](/dataset/aquatic-ecosystems-in-the-great-lakes-basin) and the Great Lakes Conservation Blueprint for Aquatic Biodiversity datasets. We are no longer updating this data. It is best suited for historical research and analysis.
