A spatial representation of the general distribution of wild mountain sheep (bighorn and thinhorn sheep) in British Columbia. Populations that extend into neighbouring provinces and states are also included. The distribution polygons are divided by species into bighorn and thinhorn sheep.

This dataset is a subset of the Sites Registry dataset. The Sites Registry is a collection of locations that are important to government carrying out its business, including sharing information with citizens. Most locations have civic addresses and are government offices or facilities, e.g. hospitals, schools, post-secondary institutions, court houses, tourism centres. It is comprised of all sites licensed under the Open Government Licence – British Columbia. Mountain Goat and Sheep Ranges were determined from both observations (telemetry and aerial sheep/goat surveys) and habitat suitability indexes. Goat and sheep ranges have been buffered by 800m to derive zones. Range delineation encompasses use during all seasons.To identify goat and sheep ranges in an effort to: a) avoid land use disturbances that may have a direct or indirect adverse effect on the behavior of the animals, and b) avoid permanent alteration of physical habitat conditions. An area south of Grande Prairie was added to the layer in November 2022.

This data contains the current caribou subpopulation (herd) boundaries. Herd boundaries are derived from the best available science and expert knowledge. A caribou subpopulation (herd) boundary is the area required to be managed to achieve a self-sustaining population. Subpopulation boundaries do not overlap even though some caribou subpopulations share portions of their annual range. *This dataset is the focal point of the Caribou in British Columbia - Web Application.

The Government of Canada continues to strive to be ever more open and transparent. This means a government that is open by default providing better digital capacity and services for Canadians.Under a modernized Fisheries Act, Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) has made available an online Fisheries Act (FA) Registry that facilitates access to data and information, including geospatial data, about projects as well as regulatory process information. The new online version of the FA Registry is now available to Canadians. The FA Registry is currently accessible through the Common Project Search Portal, a one-stop online location for Canadians to search and browse through DFO authorizations as well as projects and assessments submitted to the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada and Transport Canada.DFO will be undertaking continuous development of the Fisheries Act Registry. This release is the second step towards implementing the full FA Registry that will provide additional content as well as new features to the FA Registry, increasing transparency and proactive disclosure as well as improving digital capacity and service for Canadians.

To identify areas of high residency, fine-scale tracking data from individual animals and coarser, short-term movement patterns of herds were analyzed. Individual radio-tracking was assessed from 2001 to 2005 and herd visual tracking was assessed from 1989 to 2008. Data was collected by two research teams: GREMM (Groupe de recherche et d’éducation sur les mammifères marins) and Fisheries and Océans Canada (DFO). Areas of high residency were determined using net displacement speed of herds and they were defined as adjacent cells where 50% of the herds travelled at or below a threshold speed.Areas of high residency do not represent the general distribution of the beluga whale and no association between these areas and specific biological functions could be established. The exact delimitation of these areas can change according to the definition criteria used in the analysis. The well registry is a collection of records, including drilling logs and report documents, maintained by Yukon Government. These records provide information on the well construction details and subsurface conditions encountered at the time of drilling. Although some information in the dataset may be edited over time, the primary purpose is to document the original drilling conditions and not to provide an updated status of the well. There is no current overarching requirement for drillers or owners to submit well logs, therefore many have been provided on a voluntary basis. Therefore, this should not be expected to be a complete list of all wells across the territory.The water well dataset contains records obtained through the domestic water well program, voluntary submissions, and regulatory processes (licenses and permits). No identifiable personal information will be used or available on the public database.
