Non Legal Planning Features - Current - Point
A spatially identified point on land and/or water that has been mapped for specific land and/or resource uses as determined through a strategic land and resource planning process. This layer represents non-legalized planning lines only, thus the direction given within the planning designation is policy only and is not legally enforceable. This layer contains point geometries. Strategic Land and Resource Plans - Current
Contains the boundaries of current British Columbia Strategic Land and Resource Plans (SLRPs). The plans can be accessed [here](https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/industry/crown-land-water/land-use-planning/regions). SLRPs provide direction for Crown land use through the establishment of broad land use goals, planning zone designations, objectives and strategies. This layer represents an integrated regional consensus-based process, which requires public and First Nations participation to produce a SLRP for review and approval by government. SLRPs establish direction on land and resource use and specify broad resource management objectives and strategies. Historical plan types include SRMPs, LRMPs, RLUPs and coastal plans. Current, non-retired SLRP boundaries are included in this layer, where RETIREMENT_DATE is blank. RETIREMENT_DATE is the field that stores the retirement date. If RETIREMENT_DATE is empty, the feature is the current shape. MTA - Coal Grid, Unit
Determines the location of Coal Titles within the Province of British Columbia. It is established under the authority of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Grid Regulation. It is defined by a set of UTM coordinates which approximate NAD 27 latitude and longitude positions. Units are the finest level of the Coal Grid. They are defined by UTM coordinates for their corners and the mid points of the four sides. A unit is the base building block for creating the Coal Grid. In a block there are 100 units, 10 rows by 10 columns, and numbered consecutively, starting in the southeast corner. The units are numbered 1 to 10, 11 - 20 etc. always reading from right to left. Fire Burn Severity - Same Year
This layer is the current fire year burn severity classification for large fires (greater than 100 ha). Burn severity mapping is conducted using best available pre- and post-fire satellite multispectral imagery acquired by the MultiSpectral Instrument (MSI) aboard the Sentinel-2 satellite or the Operational Land Imager (OLI) sensor aboard the Landsat-8 and 9 satellites. Every attempt is made to use cloud, smoke, shadow and snow-free imagery that was acquired prior to September 30th. However, in late fire seasons imagery acquired after September 30th may be used. This layer is considered an interim product for the 1-year-later burn severity dataset (WHSE_FOREST_VEGETATION.VEG_BURN_SEVERITY_SP). Mapping conducted during the following growing season benefits from greater post-fire image availability and is expected to be more representative of tree mortality. #### Methodology: • Select suitable pre- and post-fire imagery or create a cloud/snow/smoke-free composite from multiple images scenes • Calculate normalized burn severity ratio (NBR) for pre- and post-fire images • Calculate difference NBR (dNBR) where dNBR = pre NBR – post NBR • Apply a scaling equation (dNBR_scaled = dNBR*1000 + 275)/5) • Apply BARC thresholds (76, 110, 187) to create a 4-class image (unburned, low severity, medium severity, and high severity) • Mask out water bodies using a satellite-derived water layer • Apply region-based filters to reduce noise • Confirm burn severity analysis results through visual quality control • Produce a vector dataset and apply Euclidian distance smoothing
Regional Ice-Ocean Prediction System
The Regional Ice Ocean Prediction System (RIOPS) provides ice and ocean forecasts up to 84 hours, four times per day on a 1/12° resolution grid (3-8 km). RIOPS is initialized using analyses from the Global Ice-Ocean Prediction System (GIOPS). Atmospheric fluxes up to 84 hours forecasts are calculated using fields from a component of the Global Deterministic Prediction System (GDPS) at 10km horizontal resolution
