Spring 2020 flood mapping

Possible flooded areas (with or without ice) were identified from a comparative analysis between two Sentinel-1 images from 4 April and 23 March 2020 acquired in the same orbit;* Sentinel-2 satellite image of April 8, 2020 in the visible and near infrared in the Lac Saint-Pierre sector (WMS web service and download).All data can be viewed on an interactive map based on IGO2.## #Note: The Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 satellite images are distributed in open data by the European Space Agency (ESA) and were processed by the firm Dromadaire-Geo-Innovations.**This third party metadata element was translated using an automated translation tool (Amazon Translate).**
Spring 2023 flood mapping
The purpose of this dataset is to locate the events related to the spring 2023 floods recorded by the Deputy Directorate General of Operations of the Ministry of Public Security. All data can be viewed on an interactive map and available as WMS and WFS web services.> To monitor the status of watercourses live, please refer to the [Vigilance - Flood Monitoring] application (https://vigilance.geo.msp.gouv.qc.ca/)### List of available data:* **Open water extent polygons derived from satellite data**: extent limits of open waters derived from radar satellite images.* **Location of flood events since April 14, 2023**: points approximately locating the flood events recorded by the Operations Directorate of the Ministry of Public Security as of April 14, 2023 (derived from the [Civil Security Events] dataset (https://www.donneesquebec.ca/recherche/dataset/evenements-de-securite-civile)).* **Municipalities affected by flood events since April 14, 2023**: cartographic representation of municipalities affected by flood events since April 14, 2023.* **Sentinel-2 satellite image**: satellite image covering flooded areas and presented as a colored compound using short band infrared, near infrared, and red wavelengths.## #Note:Satellite acquisitions for the RADARSAT Constellation Mission (RCM) are planned in collaboration with Natural Resources Canada. The images obtained are processed by the emergency geomatics services of Natural Resources Canada as soon as possible and then the open water polygons are distributed as open data on Data Canada and on Data Quebec. Other optical or radar acquisitions may have been obtained by the Ministry of Public Security (MSP) from private suppliers. Extreme Flow Statistics
The flood magnitude statistics can be used for applications such as flood plain delineation and design of hydraulic structures. The drought severity statistics can be used for applications such as water abstraction and effluent dilution.
Canada Flood Map Inventory (CFM)
The Canada Flood Map inventory shows areas in Canada where a copy of a flood hazard map has been collected by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). The inventory does not display flood zones or extents, but provides information on how to access these flood hazard maps. Depending on the license and availability status to the public, there may be links for download, along with reference information to the original source and/or data owner. NRCan collaborates with provincial and territorial governments to gather flood hazard maps from provinces, territories, municipalities, and other agencies responsible for flood mapping. The inventory is regularly updated to improve its completeness and accuracy. Disclaimer: The Canada Flood Map (CFM) inventory should not be regarded as the official repository of flood hazard maps in Canada. The inventory does not include all flood hazard maps in Canada and does not always reflect the most recent data sources. The absence of a map in the inventory does not mean that an area has not been mapped. The information provided is not guaranteed to be accurate or complete. Please consult the organization responsible in your province, territory or municipality for the most recent and official information on flood hazard maps.Note: Data and maps in the Inventory can be made available upon request to federal and contributing partners.
Floods in Canada - Archive
Flood extent polygons from past years in selected Canadian regions that have been designated for observation, monitored by Natural Resources Canada using satellite imagery for emergency response. Coverage is not comprehensive nationwide.In response to large flood events, Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), for the provision of emergency geomatics services, may be activated by Canada’s emergency management protocols. As new satellite imagery becomes available, NRCan will extract flood extent polygons and update the dataset in near real time (4 hours). This item contains the complete archive of all flood products generated since 2005, by NRCan's emergency geomatics services. For any data to the current year, please refer to the catalogue entry entitled: [Floods in Canada – Current]( https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/b1afd8d2-6e14-4ec4-9a09-652221a6cb71).The flood products generated are validated on a best effort basis. Various factors may affect the quality of the flood polygons. These factors include, but are not limited to, sensor type, image resolution, cloud cover or limitations of the flood polygon extraction method. In this layer, where possible, a symbology is applied to the flood polygons based on the underlying land use classification, or is simply unclassified and shows the raw flood extent. When using Web mapping services, to display a specific product, filter by date (UTC Date) and area of interest (AOI). Also, a link to download each product directly from the FTP site is available in the Resources section. This prepackaged and compressed product contains a Shape file, a PDF file and a KMZ file. While efforts are made to produce high quality products, near-real time products may contain errors due to the limited time available for vector editing and validation. Please note that current algorithms do not map flooded areas under the forest canopy and are not optimized for urban flood mapping. Margaree River and Tributaries Water Temperatures
PURPOSE:To record hourly water temperatures throughout the Margaree watershed.DESCRIPTION:The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) has been deploying water temperature monitoring equipment since spring 1993 in the Margaree River watershed. Coverage has changed throughout the time series and there is little documentation regarding equipment used. In recent years data have been collected using VEMCOs. USE LIMITATION:To ensure scientific integrity and appropriate use of the data, we would encourage you to contact the data custodian.
Flood Susceptibility Index (FSI)
This national map of flood susceptibility or flood prone areas is based on patterns of historic flood events as predicted by an ensemble machine learning model.The recommended use is national, provincial or regional scale and can be used as a guide for identifying areas for further investigation. Historical Flood Events (HFE)
Representation of the causes of flooding events in the form of multiple points. The point groupings correspond to the set of locations that were affected by the same event. The inventory of past flooding events was compiled from various public sources and standardized into a common data model. Sources used are included in the data. Event locations have been extensively revised to have one location per location reported as affected by the flood. Flood events for which no location was included in the sources used are positioned on the place name of the location affected by the flood. The event positions do not indicate where the flooding occurred. Flood events that affected more than one locality are represented by a multipoint.For each event after January 1, 1980 caused by a heavy rainfall or a coastal storm , a precipitation analysis document, a precipitation animation and the precipitation data are available. These documents are the result of a collaboration with Environment and Climate Change Canada.Disclaimer:It should be noted that no consultation was conducted with the various providers and stakeholders of the historic flood data. Disparities in content among the various sources result in an incomlete product. No warranty is given as to the accuracy or completeness of the information provided. The absence of information does not mean that no flooding has occurred.
