Ontario Snow Survey location and data
This data contains location information for 1 of Ontario’s snow monitoring networks: * Surface Water Monitoring Centre (SWMC) Snow course data is collected by: * conservation authorities * Ontario Power Generation * Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) districts Data is collected twice a month from November 15 until May 15. The Surface Water Monitoring Centre uses this data to assess: * current snow cover * frozen ground conditions * snowpack * potential snowmelt * contributions to streamflow The snow data is located in a corporate water and climate database. This data helps MNR and conservation authorities assess the potential for flood at the local and provincial scale.

Water Sustainability Temporary Protection Orders - Public
Temporary Protection Orders (TPOs) are ministerial orders that can be implemented to curtail water users during times of water scarcity to protect streamflow availability fish populations and the aquatic ecosystem. TPOs were implemented under Section 9 of the Fish Protection Act prior to 2016, but are now implemented under Section 86, 87 and 88 of the Water Sustainability Act. This dataset is a compilation of data hosted on TPOs to date across British Columbia and is maintained by the Watershed Stewardship and Security Branch within the Ministry of Water, Lands and Resource Stewardship. The purpose of the dataset is to communicate to water users when and where TPOs are/were in effect at the watershed scale. For specific details on which water users are affected by a TPO, please refer to the official Ministerial Order document referenced in the dataset.
Daily freshwater discharge from 477 eastern Canadian rivers (1990-2100)
PURPOSE:Freshwater discharge is used to force eastern Canadian ocean models DESCRIPTION:Neural network post-processed WRF-Hydro streamflow timeseries at 477 oceanic river outlets, where lat/lon are proxy position, riverlat/lon are outlet position, and oceanlat/lon are ocean pour points that are displaced slightly into the ocean (next to outlet position on the WRF-Hydro grid). The 477 eastern Canadian rivers were modelled using WRF-Hydro, which was forced by four CMIP models subject to WRF downscaling of atmospheric forcing. The four models are an NCAR Community Climate System Model (CCSM-4 SSP5 8.5) simulation (Meehl et al., 2012), two Met Office Hadley Centre Global Environmental Model (HadGEM2 SSP2 4.5 and SSP5 8.5) simulations (Collins et al., 2011), and a Max Planck Institute for Meteorology Earth System Model (MPI-ESM1.2-LR SSP5 8.5) simulation (Mauritsen et al., 2019). Canada1Water Classification of the National Hydro Network: Stream Order and Graph Refinement
A vector representation of stream networks is a crucial dataset for the modelling the surface water and groundwater components of the hydrologic cycle. For many usages a crucial attribute of the drainage network is a digital topology and hierarchal stream order attribute (e.g., Strahler stream order). In Canada jurisdictional stream networks are available for the provinces and territories and nationally for Canada in the National Hydrological Network (NHN) dataset. Unfortunately, the NHN data lacks the same topological and attribute information that is available for numerous provinces due to standardization for the entire country. For Canada1Water it was also necessary to have a harmonized dataset with the United States, for both the southern transboundary watersheds and the Alaskan watersheds. This report documents the processes completed to upgrade the topological and graph network support for NHN and provide continuous connectivity with US datasets. It also highlights and corrects a number of stream density and stream order issues that occur within Canada across provincial and territorial borders and NTS tiles. All vector processing was completed in RivEX software extension for ArcMap. Following complete topological correction stream classification was assigned and a table of the node graph network developed. Additional work was then completed to normalize stream density particularly amongst low-order streams between British Columbia and the Yukon and amongst local NTS tiles in Quebec and Ontario. Corrected NHN Strahler stream order assignment was validated against a number of provincial and watershed datasets, all of which already have Strahler stream order attributed. These datasets are the same underlying digitized vector data, so there are no differences in node or polyline positions. Strahler stream order assignment validation was only done by visual comparison as due to differences in vector segments a statistical comparison is complicated. The transboundary integrated C1W stream network with complete classification provides a seamless national dataset to support transdisciplinary studies (fisheries, wildlife, health, pesticide and nutrient issues, mining impact, ecosystem restoration, numeric modelling) that involve a knowledge of stream distribution and ranking.

Groundwater Flow, Groundwater Geoscience Program
Groundwater flow is the movement of water in an aquifer or hydrogeological unit. The dataset shows groundwater flow rate and direction in the hydrogeological unit. Groundwater flow is establish from piezometric surface map. The method used to create the dataset is described in the metadata associated with the dataset. The dataset represents a description of the flow, including rate in m/d, direction, date and source. Typically, the data provided will not be in the form of a shapefile with linked properties but in the form of an image that sketches the groundwater flow. The image could also represent a cross section of the hydrogeologic units showing the regional trends of the groundwater flow.
Base Stream and Flow Representation Update
The Base Hydrography Single Line Hydrography Network (SLNET) is the Alberta Environment and Protected Areas base SLNET data set. It is an update of the Base Features HydroSLNET in Southern Alberta from orthophoto and various sources of provincial base data. It contains all captured single line representations of hydrographic features. In addition, single line representations of polygonal features and single line arbitrary network connectors are in the file.
British Columbia Regional Flood Frequency Analysis Web Application
This ArcGIS Online application displays the hydrometric stations and accompanying drainage areas analyzed as part of Bulletin 2020-1-RFFA described below. A frequency analysis was conducted on Annual Maximum Series (AMS) streamflow data collected at Water Survey of Canada (WSC) and United States Geological Survey (USGS) hydrometric gauge stations that met the following criteria for inclusion in the Bulletin 2020-1-RFFA study: at least 10 years or data (with 350 or more days of observations) above the low outlier threshold; less than 20% (by basin drainage area) regulation; a corresponding basin polygon dataset (either supplied or delineated) with an area <15% different than the basin area reported by WSC or USGS; full metadata coverage for the basin (e.g. mean annual precipitation, elevation, etc.); and 1-, 3-, 5-, and -10 day distribution fits that did not overlap for any Average Recurrence Interval’s (ARI) above 2 years. The analysis was conducted by Northwest Hydraulic Consultants and RTI International Inc. for the Water Management Branch of FLNRORD. The geographic area of the dataset is shown in Bulletin 2020-1-RFFA and consists of all of British Columbia and selected watersheds around the perimeter of the province. There are 3 datasets within this project consisting of: • Hydrometric station locations of the stations that were analyzed as part of the study. • The drainage areas of the respective hydrometric stations that were analyzed. • The BC Hydrologic Zones that were extended outside of BC.
