Fetch and relative wave exposure indices for the coastal zone of the Newfoundland and Labrador Shelves bioregion
A relative exposure index (REI), unweighted fetch, effective fetch, and other fetch-based indices (i.e., sum, minimum) were calculated for the Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Shelves bioregion. Due to the extensive coastline of the study region, this analysis was conducted for a 5km buffered region along the coast at a spatial resolution of 250m. Detailed methods on the selection of input points for the NL bioregion are included below.MethodsPreprocessing and input point selection:Land boundary files were obtained for Eastern Canada and the Canadian Arctic (NrCan 2017) at a scale of 1:50,000 as well as for Saint Pierre and Miquelon (Hijmans 2015), and the New England states (GADM 2012) however the scale at which these layers were produced is unknown. Land boundary files were merged into a single land polygon layer and watercourses reaching for in-land and/or above sea level were clipped from this polygon layer (Greyson 2021). A 5km buffer was generated around the NL provincial boundary. This buffer was then clipped by all land polygons to remove areas overlapping land polygons within the study area. All buffer segments intersecting the NAFO divisions within the NL bioregion were selected and the Union tool in ArcGIS Pro (v. 2.7.2) was used to fill-in gaps within the buffered area, creating a more continuous polygon. The buffered layer was then dissolved, and the NL provincial boundary polygon was erased from the buffered layer to create the study area polygon. A 250m fishnet was created and clipped to the study area (5km buffer layer) and the feature to point tool was used (with the “inside parameter checked”) to convert this grid into a point layer (approx. 1,000,000 points). Manitoba Zoning By Laws
The purpose of this layer is to provide end users with a spatial representation of the Zones in adopted Zoning bylaws and their consolidated amendments in Manitoba. This layer is intended to be a source of data delivery as well as usage in situ.This dataset is comprised of boundary geometry representing the zones in the Zoning bylaws (as defined in The Planning Act) in force and effect within the Province of Manitoba. Spatial referencing of the zones is based on the best available land parcel data for each municipality. Where available, land parcel data based on registered survey plans and ground control coordinates was used. Otherwise, the reference grid maintained by Manitoba Sustainable Development was used. The delineation of the boundaries is set by the bylaw establishing or amending the boundary of each zone. Dataset content is subject to: Ongoing changes in zone boundaries which are determined by amendments to adopted Zoning bylaws or the adoption of new Zoning bylaws. Ongoing development and maintenance of the land parcel datasets. Improvements to the land parcel data are used to improve the positional accuracy of the zone polygons. As of the publication date of this dataset, the following known issues remain: For zone boundaries that include water boundaries, the water boundary that best reflects the intended zone boundary was used. In some instances, road allowances on a municipal boundary are included in both of the adjoining municipalities. The Zoning bylaw data reflects the most current zones at the time of export and was uploaded to Manitoba Maps as a feature layer. Terrain Mapping (TER) Project Boundaries
Terrain Mapping (TER) project boundaries contains (study areas) and attributes describing each project (project level metadata), plus links to the locations of other data associated with the project (e.g., reports, polygon datasets, plotfiles, legends) for terrain inventory, bioterrain and terrain stability mapping projects. TER divides the landscape into units according to surficial materials, landforms and geomorphological processes using the Terrain Classification System for British Columbia. CBM Potential of the Alberta Plains - Drumheller Coal Zone Boundary (GIS dataset)
The coal zone boundary for the Drumheller Coal Zone is based on subcrops generated by Alberta Geological Survey Special Report 007 (Regional Evaluation of the Coalbed Methane Potential in the Plains and Foothills of Alberta, Stratigraphy and Rank Study). We used additional coal picks from various sourcesto refine the boundary.
