Regional Ensemble Storm Surge Prediction System
The Regional Ensemble storm Surge Prediction System (RESPS) produces storm surge forecasts using the DalCoast ocean model. DalCoast (Bernier and Thompson 2015) is a storm surge forecast system for the east coast of Canada based on the depth-integrated, barotropic and linearized form of the Princeton Ocean Model. The model is forced by the 10 meters winds and sea level pressure from the Global Ensemble Prediction System (GEPS).
Global Deterministic Storm Surge Prediction System
The Global Deterministic storm Surge Prediction System (GDSPS) produces water level forecasts using a modified version of the NEMO ocean model (Wang et al. 2021, 2022, 2023). It provides 240 hours forecasts twice per day on a 1/12° resolution grid (3-9 km). The model is forced by the 10 meters winds, sea level pressure, ice concentration, ice velocity and surface currents from the Global Deterministic Prediction System (GDPS). The three dimensionnal ocean temperature and salinity fields of the model are nudged to values provided by the Global Ice-Ocean Prediction System (GIOPS) and the GDPS. During the post-processing phase, storm surge elevation (ETAS) is derived from total water level (SSH) by harmonic analysis using t_tide (Foreman et al. 2009).
Vertical allowance gridded dataset for Canada
Sea level rise increases coastal flooding in many areas of Canada. The Canadian Extreme Water Level Adaptation tool has been developed to accommodate sea level rise. The infrastructure needs to be built higher in order to reduce the risk of flooding. The vertical allowance is the recommended height that the infrastructure to be raised in future years relative to year 2010. The vertical allowance depends on (1) statistics of historical storm surge and tides, and (2) the best estimate and associated uncertainty of future sea level rise. The vertical allowance preserves the frequency of flooding events at some future time under uncertain sea level rise. Vertical allowances are provided for scenarios based on the fifth assessment report (AR5) of IPCC for the period of 2020-2100 and the sixth assessment report (AR6) of IPCC for the period of 2020-2150.Cite this data as: Zhai, L., Greenan, B., Perrie, W. Steller sea lion (Eumetopias jubatus) counts and haulout locations across the British Columbia coast
Considered the "king" of sea lions, the Steller sea lion (Eumetopias jubatus) is the biggest of all sea lions and enjoys a lifespan of up to thirty years. In Canada, the Steller can be spotted along the rocky coast of British Columbia. This hefty mammal usually travels alone or in a small group, but wisely, it joins others for protection during the mating and birthing season. Little is known about its oceanic lifestyle; however, the good news for this sea-loving mammal is that since the Steller sea lion first became protected in 1970, the size of the adult population has more than doubled. Recent trends in the abundance of Steller sea lions (Eumetopias jubatus) in British Columbia were assessed based on a series of thirteen province-wide aerial surveys conducted during the breeding season (27-June to 06-July) between 1971 and 2013.
Contaminants in fish database
The contaminants in fish database is a compilation of contaminant data analysed from fish tissue at the Fresh Water Institute from 1970 to 2005. Data include lab number, region, analysis, organs, species, lake, form (whole fish, headon dressed, headless dressed), weight, and length and contaminant concentrations. Total mercury was the predominant contaminant measured. Results were expressed as ppm or ppb based on the parameter analyzed. Concentrations are expressed based on wet weight.
Historical Flood Events (HFE)
Representation of the causes of flooding events in the form of multiple points. The point groupings correspond to the set of locations that were affected by the same event. The inventory of past flooding events was compiled from various public sources and standardized into a common data model. Sources used are included in the data. Event locations have been extensively revised to have one location per location reported as affected by the flood. Flood events for which no location was included in the sources used are positioned on the place name of the location affected by the flood. The event positions do not indicate where the flooding occurred. Flood events that affected more than one locality are represented by a multipoint.For each event after January 1, 1980 caused by a heavy rainfall or a coastal storm , a precipitation analysis document, a precipitation animation and the precipitation data are available. These documents are the result of a collaboration with Environment and Climate Change Canada.Disclaimer:It should be noted that no consultation was conducted with the various providers and stakeholders of the historic flood data. Disparities in content among the various sources result in an incomlete product. No warranty is given as to the accuracy or completeness of the information provided. The absence of information does not mean that no flooding has occurred.

Displays the levels of escalating enforcement applied by health officers to enforce the Manitoba Food and Food Handling Establishment Regulations when food safety violations are not corrected in the prescribed period of timeThis table displays the frequency in which health officers applied escalating levels of enforcement to food processors who did not correct food safety violations in the prescribed amount of time indicated in the inspection. Food processors are given a period of time to correct food safety violations based on the associated risk to food safety. Escalating enforcement is only applied if the violation is not corrected in the prescribed period of time. This table was created by the Food Safety and Inspection Branch - Agriculture and Resource Development department.Field Names (Field Alias): Field description. Period (Period):The period for which the data was collected. Either quarterly or yearly. Year (Year): The specific year of the previously mentioned data collection period. Date (Date): The dates of the calendar year in which the data was collected during a period. Enforcement_Type (Enforcement Type): The individual levels of escalating enforcement applied by health officers. The values for this field are "Warning letter", "Verbal warning", "Offence notice issued", "Closure orders issued", "Suspensions", "Products seized and destroyed", "Products seized and held". Total (Total): the number of occurrences a level of escalating enforcement was applied in a period.
Carmine Shiner Conservation Physiology
Results from temperature preference experiments demonstrated that individual personality was consistent and repeatability. Individual preferred and maximum avoidance temperatures were significantly reduced in hypoxia compared to normoxia. Standard metabolic rate increased with temperature and body mass. Patterns of projected habitat change suggest the spatial extent of the current distribution of Carmine shiner would shift north with global warming. The understanding of habitat requirements and responses to climate will aid management and recovery efforts for this threatened species.Cite this dataset as: Enders, Eva. Biodiversity of the snow crab trawl survey in Ste-Marguerite Bay, in the Gulf of St-Lawrence (2006-2009)
A research survey on snow crab (Chionoecetes opilio) was conducted from May 2006 to May 2009 in the Bay of Ste. Marguerite near Sept-Îles, Quebec. The main objective of this survey was to assess the abundance of snow crab and benthic species associated with snow crab habitat. Only data for benthic species associated with snow crab habitat are presented in this dataset.Data were collected according to a fixed station sampling design consisting of 79 stations, between 7 to 198 meters depth. Specimens were collected using a beam trawl. The codend was lined with a small stretched mesh net in order to harvest the small individuals. The hauls were made at a target duration of 15 minutes. Start and end positions were recorded to calculate the distance traveled on each tow using the geosphere library in R. The two files provided (DarwinCore format) are complementary and are linked by the "eventID" key. The "Activity_Information" file includes generic activity information, including date and location. The "occurrence_taxon" file includes the taxonomy of the species observed, identified to the species or lowest possible taxonomic level. To obtain the abundance and biomass assessment, contact Bernard Sainte-Marie (Bernard.Sainte-Marie@dfo-mpo.gc.ca).For quality controls, all taxonomic names were checked against the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS) to match recognized standards. The WoRMS match was placed in the "ScientificnameID" field of the occurrence file. Data quality checks were performed using the R obistools and worrms libraries. All sampling locations were spatially validated.
