FRI: Terrain contours
Terrain contours (TRNCNT) is a vector delineation of areas of equivalent elevation, in 5 m classes, as contour lines.Download: Here The Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment, Forest Service Branch, has developed a forest resource inventory (FRI) which meets a variety of strategic and operational planning information needs for the boreal plains. Such needs include information on the general land cover, terrain, and growing stock (height, diameter, basal area, timber volume and stem density) within the provincial forest and adjacent forest fringe. This inventory provides spatially explicit information as 10 m or 20 m raster grids and as vectors polygons for relatively homogeneous forest stands or naturally non-forested areas with a 0.5 ha minimum area and a 2.0 ha median area. Ontario Vector Topographic Data Cache
The Ontario Vector Topographic Data Cache is a collection of topographic data, that has been preprocessed for fast, seamless display at predefined scales. The topographic data includes constructed and natural features that make up Ontario’s landscape. The cache provides limited data from areas outside Ontario’s boundaries, such as the United States and adjacent provinces and territories. __Technical information__ Two versions of the Topographic Data Cache are available: 1. The traditional raster version is available for a variety of GIS applications and is updated annually. 2. The vector version is suitable for online web map applications as well as modern GIS software and is updated twice a year. Contributing data layers may have different maintenance and update cycles. Some cache layers have been processed in a way that makes it easier for them to be displayed in a mapping product. Other layers are unchanged from the authoritative data. The cartographic symbology used in the data cache is intentionally muted to allow users to showcase their data. The Ontario Vector Topographic Data Cache is created from many source datasets, which are described in the Ontario Vector Topographic Data Cache user guide. This dataset was created to provide land use information on the Oak Ridges Moraine and is the basis for Ontario Regulation 140/02. The data was digitized at 1:10,000 or better using 0.5 metre air photos, MNR, DMTI, Upper and Lower-tier Official Plans and digital vector layers.

Vector grid system for a Quebec spatial data infrastructure, 2024 edition
The vector grid system provides a spatial and statistical infrastructure that allows the integration of environmental and socio-economic data. Its exploitation allows the crossing of different spatial data within the same grid units. Project results obtained using this grid system can be more easily linked. This grid system forms the geographic and statistical infrastructure of the [Southern Quebec Land Accounts] (https://statistique.quebec.ca/fr/document/comptes-des-terres-du-quebec-meridional-regions-administratives-et-provinces-naturelles) of the Institut de la Statistique du Québec (ISQ). It forms the geospatial and statistical context for the development of ecosystem accounting in Quebec. **In order to improve the vector grid system and the Land Accounts of Southern Quebec and to better anticipate the future needs of users, we would like to be informed of their use (field of application, objectives of use, territory, association with other products, etc.). This grid system allows the spatial integration of various data relating, for example, to human populations, the economy or the characteristics of land. The ISQ wishes to encourage the use of this system in projects that require the integration of several data sources, the analysis of this data at different spatial scales and the monitoring of this data over time. The fixed geographic references of the grids simplify the compilation of statistics according to different territorial divisions and facilitate the monitoring of changes over time. In particular, the grid system promotes the consistency of data at the provincial level. The spatial intersection of the grid and the spatial data layer to be integrated makes it possible to transfer the information underlying the layer within each cell of the grid. In the case of the Southern Quebec Land Accounts, the spatial intersection of the grid and each of the three land cover layers (1990s, 2000s and 2010s) made it possible to report the dominant coverage within each grid cell. The set of [matrix files of Southern Quebec Land Accounts] (https://www.donneesquebec.ca/recherche/fr/dataset/comptes-des-terres-du-quebec-meridional-changement-de-la-couverture-terrestre) is the result of this intersection. **Features: **The product includes two vector grids: one formed of cells of 1 km² (or 1,000 m on a side), which covers all of Quebec, and another of 2,500 m² cells (or 50 m on a side, i.e. a quarter of a hectare), which fits perfectly into the first and covers Quebec territory located south of the 52nd parallel. Note that the nomenclature of this system, designed according to a Cartesian plan, was developed so that it was possible to integrate cells with finer resolutions (up to 5 meters on a side). In its 2024 update, the 50 m grid system is divided into 331 parts with a side of 50 km in order to limit the number of cells per part of the grid to millions and thus facilitate geospatial processing. This grid includes a total of approximately 350 million cells or 875,000 km2. Canada1Water Classification of the National Hydro Network: Stream Order and Graph Refinement
A vector representation of stream networks is a crucial dataset for the modelling the surface water and groundwater components of the hydrologic cycle. For many usages a crucial attribute of the drainage network is a digital topology and hierarchal stream order attribute (e.g., Strahler stream order). In Canada jurisdictional stream networks are available for the provinces and territories and nationally for Canada in the National Hydrological Network (NHN) dataset. Unfortunately, the NHN data lacks the same topological and attribute information that is available for numerous provinces due to standardization for the entire country. For Canada1Water it was also necessary to have a harmonized dataset with the United States, for both the southern transboundary watersheds and the Alaskan watersheds. This report documents the processes completed to upgrade the topological and graph network support for NHN and provide continuous connectivity with US datasets. It also highlights and corrects a number of stream density and stream order issues that occur within Canada across provincial and territorial borders and NTS tiles. All vector processing was completed in RivEX software extension for ArcMap. Following complete topological correction stream classification was assigned and a table of the node graph network developed. Additional work was then completed to normalize stream density particularly amongst low-order streams between British Columbia and the Yukon and amongst local NTS tiles in Quebec and Ontario. Corrected NHN Strahler stream order assignment was validated against a number of provincial and watershed datasets, all of which already have Strahler stream order attributed. These datasets are the same underlying digitized vector data, so there are no differences in node or polyline positions. Strahler stream order assignment validation was only done by visual comparison as due to differences in vector segments a statistical comparison is complicated. The transboundary integrated C1W stream network with complete classification provides a seamless national dataset to support transdisciplinary studies (fisheries, wildlife, health, pesticide and nutrient issues, mining impact, ecosystem restoration, numeric modelling) that involve a knowledge of stream distribution and ranking.
