The Government of Alberta's Land-use Framework (LUF) sets out an approach to manage Alberta's lands and natural resources to achieve the province's long-term economic, environmental and social goals and provides a blueprint for land-use management and decision-making that addresses Alberta's growth pressures. The LUF was developed with extensive public, stakeholder, and Aboriginal consultation. The final framework was released by the Government of Alberta in December 2008 and provides the necessary forward-looking clarity and guidance under which specific policy development can be directed and progress can be measured. It provides a decision-making framework that reflects province-wide goals, principles and priorities. Legal authority to implement the LUF occurred on October 1, 2009, with the proclamation of the Alberta Land Stewardship Act (ALSA). The Act, which established as part of the public service but not as part of a government department, the LUS headed by the stewardship commissioner, potentially affects all activities on the land and all Albertans. This polygon shapefile contains the boundaries for the seven Land-use Framework planning regions which are based on watersheds and adjusted to align with municipal boundaries. The Land-use Framework regions are defined by Orders in Council which serve as the defining documents.

In the Capital Urban Lands Plan (2015), Land designations identify the desired uses for federal urban lands in relation to the role they play for the Capital in a given location. In 2009, Fisheries and Oceans Canada published the Policy on Managing the Impacts of Fishing on Sensitive Benthic Areas. To support the implementation of this policy, a Canadian Science Advisory Secretariat (CSAS) process was initiated to: assess the distribution of fishing effort in Canada’s Atlantic and Eastern Arctic waters from 2005-2014, evaluate the overlap between fishing effort and Significant Benthic Areas (SiBAs), and identify areas of potential conservation concern. Although Research Document 2018/15 (Koen-Alonso et al. 2018), detailing this work, has not been updated since publication, the methodology outlined within it is still used to generate updated fishing effort layers as new data becomes available. This record illustrates cumulative fishing effort in Canada’s Atlantic and Eastern Arctic waters from 2005-2023, and is based on commercial logbook and vessel monitoring system (VMS) data. Fishing effort has been standardized into percentiles, whereby the top 20th percentile of intensity (cell values ≥20) represent cells containing the most intense fishing activities.

Map of harbours critical to fishing and aquaculture industries managed by harbour authorities (Core fishing harbours), harbours that support fishing and aquaculture industries that aren’t managed by harbour authorities (Non-core fishing harbours), and harbours that support the recreational community (Recreational harbours).

During negotiations of the Umbrella Final Agreement, Kluane First Nation (KFN) and White River First Nation (WRFN) began negotiations together under one organization, the Kluane Tribal Council, which submitted one map of a traditional territory (Boundary) on behalf of both KFN and WRFN. Attempts were made to reach agreement with KFN and WRFN on how the map should be divided between both groups. As a result, a “KFN Core Area”, “WRFN Core Area” and the “KFN-WRFN Core Areas” map was incorporated into the KFN Final Agreement.These regions are defined in Section 2 as Specific Provisions: Specific Provision"KFN Core Area" means the area identified as Kluane First Nation Core Area on Map Sheet "KFN-WRFN Core Areas", Appendix B – Maps, which forms a separate volume to this Agreement. Specific Provision "WRFN Core Area" means the area identified as White River First Nation Core Area on Map Sheet "KFN-WRFN Core Areas", Appendix B – Maps, which forms a separate volume to this Agreement. KFN signed its Final Agreement, obtaining Treaty Rights, in 2003.
